Before the peninsula was united, there were many kingdoms sitting on the peninsula, e.g. Kingdom of Sardegna, Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, etc. The Italian Unification movement, Risorgimento. marked the beginning of Modern Italy by the establishment of Kingdom of Italy in 1861. Pre-Colony era, Hong Kong was being regarded as a small fishing village. After the singing of the Treaty of Nanjing, Hong Kong became a colony of British Empire, marking the beginning of Modern Hong Kong in 1842.

Hong Kong, interestingly, is 19 years older!
